V-ATPase is responsible for acidifying a variety of intracellular compartments in eukaryotic cells. V-ATPase is responsible for energizing electrophoretic potassium/proton antiport (1 potassium ion is exchanged for 2 protons) by generating a transmembrane voltage of more than 200 mV.
