Summary

Description
Probable serine protease that plays a role in hearing. Acts as a permissive factor for cochlear hair cell survival and activation at the onset of hearing and is required for saccular hair cell survival (By similarity). Activates ENaC (in vitro).
Degrades alpha chain of fibrinogen (FGA), and has strong caseinolytic activity. Cleaves oxidized insulin B-chain at '40-Tyr-|-Leu-41', '48-Phe-|-Phe-49' and '49-Phe-|-Tyr-50', and glucagon at the bonds '62-Tyr-|-Ser-63', 66-Leu-|-Asp-67' and '78-Leu-|-Met-79' bonds.
Snake venom serine protease that may act in the hemostasis system of the prey.
Catalytic Activity
Preferential cleavage of Arg-|-Xaa bonds in small molecule substrates. Highly selective action to release kallidin (lysyl-bradykinin) from kininogen involves hydrolysis of Met-|-Xaa or Leu-|-Xaa.
